College Softball : Bladow Leads Rancho Santiago
Lee Bladow went 2 for 3 with a triple, double and an RBI Friday to lead Rancho Santiago College to an 11-1 South Coast Conference win over Mt. San Antonio at Santa Ana.
The Dons, 11-1 in conference and 32-5 overall, need one more victory to clinch their first SCC championship.
Chris Makimoto added a triple and two RBIs, and Sandy Martinez tripled and stole home for Rancho Santiago. Kim Martin (19-2) pitched a complete game.
In other South Coast Conference action:
Cerritos 1, Golden West 0 (12 innings)--Tracy Smith doubled home pinch-runner Wanda Brewer for the Falcons (9-3, 30-9) at Cerritos. Estella Gutierrez shut out the Rustlers four hits.
Fullerton 1, Cypress 0--Carrie Kirschberg’s RBI double in the fourth inning led the Hornets (7-5, 29-13) past the Chargers (7-5, 23-10). Fullerton’s Annette Gonzales (13-8) pitched a shutout.
In CCAA action:
Chapman College 3-4, Cal State Bakersfield 1-2--Casey Tacason (14-9) picked up both wins for the Panthers (8-10, 27-18). Lori Tschetter had two doubles and an RBI in the first game. The Roadrunners (5-15, 21-22) led, 2-1, in the bottom of the sixth when the Panthers scored three runs to clinch the game. Karen Yamaguchi had a single, triple and two RBIs for Chapman.
