Golden West, OCC Win Swim Titles

Golden West and Orange Coast colleges won the men and women’s titles, respectively, at the South Coast Conference swimming championships Saturday at Saddleback College.

In men’s competition, Golden West scored 716 points to second-place Orange Coast’s 621.

The other teams in order of finish: Saddleback (571), Rancho Santiago (368), Fullerton (207), Mt. San Antonio (172), Cypress (73) and Cerritos (57).

Saddleback’s Kim Dellota was named the men’ s outstanding swimmer. Dellota won all three of his individual events, setting conference records in each.

Dellota won the 400-yard medley (4:06.76), 500-yard free (4:35.34) and 1,650-yard free (16:03.58).

Golden West’s 800-yard freestyle relay team set a conference record with a time of 6:56.72.

In women’s competition, Orange Coast easily won with a score 856. Second-place Golden West finished with 624.

The other teams in order of finish: Fullerton (282), Saddleback (273), Cypress (250), Rancho Santiago (188), Cerritos (158) and Mt. San Antonio (143).

Orange Coast College’s Cheri Carpenter was voted the women’s outstanding swimmer. She won the 100-yard individual medley (1:02.74), 100-yard free (54.96) and 200-yard free (1:57.67).
