The Tragedy at Central Library

Share

Coming home, I heard over the radio about the fire at the Los Angeles library. It made me sick to my stomach.

I have enjoyed many hours in the building, using its collection of books and magazines.

For years there had been talk about refurbishing the building and improving the safety of it. While the building itself is classic, it is minor compared to the contents. The design of the building worked against the safe storage of the contents.

Now because of all the years of arguing about what to do with the library building we have lost the real assets--the books.

I hope that all the people who worked against the various proposals to replace the main library hang their heads in shame.
