It is a shame that we have to live in a society that practically forces us to live in constant fear or make us feel that we are in an armed camp.

I, as an attorney, went into the Federal Building in Los Angeles recently. I had a briefcase with me that is about 1 1/2-inches thick. There is a guard at the entrance and I was required to place my briefcase into a scanning machine. So far so good. However, a young man preceded me into the building. He had a case with him about 5 or 6 inches thick. He was passed by the guard without being checked. I asked the guard why he was not checked and the guard said, “He is a repairman”

Who knows what was in that man’s case. It easily could have held 20 pounds or more of explosives. Possibly it did, possibly it did not. It is foreseeable that by this method a large amount of explosives could be accumulated in the building for detonation at some later time.

If we are going to have security let’s have security.
