Report Notes Lack of Child Care for Students

Five of six school-aged children in Los Angeles County who need child care cannot find the service, United Way reported.

The report, released last week at a daylong conference on child care, showed only 46,621 spaces available in the county for an estimated 239,085 children needing supervision before or after school.

“California is setting the pace for the nation . . . but resources currently available are woefully inadequate,” said Nina Sazer, director of the United Way School Age Child Care Project.
