Coronado
Coronado police arrested a 34-year-old man Wednesday on suspicion of solicitation for murder and possession of stolen property after he reportedly offered an undercover officer $100,000 worth of stolen jewelry to kill his in-laws, police said.
John Christopher Williams was arrested after completing a murder-for-hire deal with Police Officer Jim Coates, Police Chief Jerry Boyd said. According to police reports, Williams, a San Diego resident who works as a painter in Coronado, told a co-worker Monday that he was looking for someone to kill his father-in-law, mother-in-law and sister-in-law.
The co-worker notified police and on Wednesday introduced Williams to Coates, saying the undercover officer was interested in the offer. Williams showed Coates $100,000 worth of jewelry that he said he had stolen from his in-laws in a January, 1985, burglary. Police said jewelry matching the description of that offered to Coates had been reported stolen by Williams’ in-laws, whose identity was not released.
Williams is being held at County Jail in lieu of $400,000 bail.
