A blaze that took more than four hours to bring under control destroyed six stores and caused at least $1.5 million damage at a shopping center in Los Gatos but no injuries, fire officials said. The cause of the fire is under investigation, said Inspector Angelo Chancellor. “The $1.5-million damage estimate is conservative,” he said. “There may have been more depending on what was in the stores.” Chancellor said a fire wall stopped the blaze from burning eight other businesses in the center after it destroyed a real estate firm, title insurance office, restaurant, clothing store, karate studio and video shop. Smoke and water also damaged several other stores.
