A 71-year-old Tarzana man was shot several times at his home Monday during an argument with a 60-year-old female roommate who later was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, Los Angeles police said.

The victim, Harold Ben Shapiro, had been arguing with Shirley Irene Donelson in the home they share in the 18600 block of Burbank Boulevard, Detective Pat Conmay said. Donelson fired six shots at Shapiro with a .38-caliber revolver, striking him several times, Conmay said.

A man who also shares the house told investigators that he heard the two people at about 8 p.m., when the shots were fired.

Shapiro was taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center, where a spokeswoman said he was in serious but stable condition Tuesday in the intensive-care ward.

Donelson was being held without bail in the West Valley jail.
