Melair a Winner in Railbird Stakes at Hollywood Park

Unbeaten Melair breezed to a 7 1/2-length victory over previously unbeaten Comparability Wednesday in the $82,350 Railbird Stakes, before a crowd of 16,227 at Hollywood Park.

Melair, who was ridden by Patrick Valenzuela and carried 115 pounds, covered seven furlongs in 1:22 2/5 and, as the 7-10 favorite, paid $3.40, $2.60 and $2.40.

The victory, third in as many starts for Melair, was worth $48,600.

Comparability, ridden by Eddie Delahoussaye, crossed the finish line a half-length in front of Silent Arrival and returned $3.80 and $3. Comparability had won her first three races.

The $5 exacta of Melair and Comparability paid $26.

Silent Arrival, an 87-1 longshot ridden by Luis Ortega, was 1 lengths ahead of Winter Treasure at the wire and returned $7.60 to show.

Following Winter Treasure across the finish line in the race for 3-year-old fillies were Marianna’s Girl, Sari’s Heroine and Halo Street. T.V. Residual and Chick or Two were scratched.

Valenzuela was aboard three winners Wednesday, while Delahoussaye and Laffit Pincay had two victories each.
