Walker Tells of Talks With Cowboys

Share

Running back Herschel Walker of the New Jersey Generals testified Thursday that he has spoken with the National Football League’s Dallas Cowboys “over 10 times” since he has been under contract to the United States Football League team.

Testifying in the USFL’s $1.5-billion antitrust suit against the NFL, Walker said in New York that he has spoken with Gil Brandt, Cowboy director of player personnel, and that, unsolicited, Brandt sent Walker a Cowboy jersey with his name and No. 34 on it.

The 1982 Heisman Trophy winner was selected by the Cowboys in the fifth round of the 1985 draft, the first year he would have been available to an NFL team.
