The Oriental fruit fly has been officially eradicated from California. A joint statement by the California Department of Food and Agriculture and the Los Angeles County agricultural commissioner said that although no Oriental fruit flies have been found in the state since Jan. 15, 1986, eradication was not declared official until three life-cycles for the insect had passed without new discoveries.
