Azusa : West End Planner Hired
The Azusa City Council has hired Pod Inc. of Santa Ana to develop a specific plan for the West End redevelopment area, an industrial-commercial district bounded generally by Todd and Vernon avenues, Foothill Boulevard and 8th Street. The city redevelopment agency will pay the company $53,900 to create a plan to retain existing businesses and attract new ones.
In a related move, the council, acting as the redevelopment agency board, has approved an owner participation agreement under which Aerojet General Corp. will build a $10-million office building at Aerojet Avenue and Optical Drive. Aerojet, which owns the land, agreed to construct the 100,000-square-foot building after the redevelopment agency began discussions about acquiring the land for another company, which wanted to build a smaller office building. The agreement commits Aerojet to undertake construction by March, 1988, or pay a financial penalty.
