A memorial service for Eric Gregory Owen, 19, of San Juan Capistrano, who drowned while swimming in the Colorado River, will be conducted at 4 p.m. Monday at St. Margaret Episcopal Church, 31641 La Novia Ave. in San Juan Capistrano.

Eric Owen, the son of prominent south county developer Gus Owen, was pulled under by turbulence near the Headgate Dam at Parker, Ariz., on Saturday afternoon. As of late Thursday his body had not been recovered.

The younger Owen, who was a student at Saddleback College, had accompanied his sister, Melissa, 17, and other new graduates of Dana Hills High School on an outing to the Colorado River. “Eric was swimming and floating on the river when he got caught in the turbulence,” his father said. A friend who was swimming with him was rescued.
