A 33-year-old gunman was shot to death by police moments after he allegedly shot and wounded a young woman in a Central Los Angeles bar. Police said three officers were having lunch at a doughnut shop in the 600 block of South Main Street when they were informed that a man was threatening people with a handgun in a bar next door. They arrived at the door of the bar, a police spokesman said, just in time to see the suspect fire a single shot that went through the woman’s mouth and lodged in her neck. When the gunman turned toward them, the spokesman said, the officers opened fire. The suspect, who was not immediately identified, collapsed on the sidewalk outside the bar and was pronounced dead at the scene. The wounded woman was taken to County-USC Medical Center where she was reported in satisfactory condition.
