Woman Dies After Son Battles Thief
An elderly woman suffered a fatal heart attack Friday morning when she saw her 71-year-old son fighting with a young woman burglar in their South Los Angeles home.
Sheriff’s deputies said the victim, Fannie Lazorowitz, 91, was awakened by noise from the fight about 2:30 a.m. and went into the kitchen, where she found her son, Solomon, struggling with a woman who was armed with a knife and handgun.
Mrs. Lazorowitz collapsed, and when her son went to her aid, the burglar escaped with a small appliance and a sum of money she had stolen.
Mrs. Lazorowitz was taken to County-Martin Luther King Jr. Drew Medical Center, where she died an hour later. Solomon Lazorowitz was not injured.
