San Dimas : Funds Sought for School
A group calling itself Concerned Parents for a Better San Dimas High School has gathered about 600 signatures on a petition urging the city to reconsider the use of funds earmarked for construction of a park and use some of the money for improvements at the school.
A spokesman for the group said the petition asks the city to spend $750,000 for construction of a football stadium and tennis courts and renovation of four baseball fields.
The City Council has not answered the request and is going ahead with plans to build Horse Thieves Canyon Park in the northern part of the city. Sally Duff, director of the city Human Services and Facilities Department, said the City Council this week approved final architectural plans for the park, but bids for construction of sports facilities there have not yet been accepted.
The park, which is expected to cost the city about $800,000 and the state $200,000, will include a lighted softball field and non-lighted fields for soccer, football and baseball. A concession stand, restrooms and equestrian trail also will be constructed.
