Buena Park : Man Drowns in Pool After Alleged Drug Use
A 29-year-old man drowned Thursday after he reportedly smoked a PCP-laced cigarette and went swimming in his girlfriend’s pool, police said.
Mark Anthony Hoovermale of Buena Park was declared dead upon arrival at La Palma Intercommunity Hospital, police said.
According to a police spokesman, the woman told officers that she and Hoovermale had smoked the cigarette shortly before finding him at the bottom of the pool at her home on Gaines Way.
The woman thought Hoovermale was swimming but fished his body out of the water when he remained at the pool floor, according to the spokesman, Officer Terry Branum. The woman failed to resuscitate Hoovermale and called paramedics, Branum said.
Hoovermale, an unemployed construction worker, apparently became “disoriented in the water,” Branum said.
