Share

Two apartments were destroyed by a fire that broke out in one of them Thursday, leaving six people homeless, authorities said.

Damage to the adjoining two-bedroom units was estimated at $100,000, said Orange County Fire Department Capt. Joe Kerr. The cause of the fire had not been determined.

The fire started in the front room of a downstairs apartment occupied by Clifford Creighton, his wife, Frances, and their two boys, ages 8 and 12. It was reported at 11:15 a.m. by the boys as they arrived home.

Cheri Hurd, 36, who was at work at the time, and her 17-year-old daughter Kelle, will be in need of shelter, too. Their upstairs apartment suffered mostly structural damage.

The fire at 3701 Parkview Lane took about 25 minutes to control, Kerr said.

Irvine Pacific, a Newport Beach subsidiary of the Irvine Co., owns the building.

The American Red Cross was at the scene to help find shelter for the six people who were left homeless.
