Monorail

Share

In answer to John W. Puorto’s letter (June 23), you don’t have to go to London, Paris, or Rome to enjoy a fast, efficient public transportation system, you have but to cross the northern border into Toronto, Canada, to find the finest public transportation system in the world. The parking lots are at the city limits thus minimizing smog and the more terrible effects of acid rain, which has become a problem all over the world.

Imagine an efficient monorail system connecting the beach cities with Los Angeles. It would have to be monorail because of the earthquake activities in California. Japan has a monorail system. Even Disneyland has one, why not Southern California? Moreover, the monorail is less expensive than a subway to build.

Southern California is traveling the horse-and-buggy route or system. Each community has its own transit system, which it calls “rapid” with no concern for the public in meeting another community bus on time. It is possible to walk faster than wait for a bus connection.
