The man entered Godfather’s Pizza and started handing out $10 bills to everyone in sight. After he left, another $777 was found in the parking lot.

Restaurant manager Rick Frennea notified police last week, and officers stopped the unidentified man riding in a truck headed out of town.

Officers said the man told them that he had just been awarded a large cash settlement in an insurance lawsuit and produced copies of checks from a law firm for $26,000 and $40,000.

He said he would get $250,000 in the next five years.

“He told us that he was going to celebrate for three days and eat a lot of steaks,” Officer Rick Miller said. “He said the other man (in the truck) was with him to drive because he was going to do some drinking.”

Frennea took the $777 to City Hall for safekeeping.

“The man told us to keep the money when we tried to give it back to him,” Frennea said.
