Subpoenas will be issued to two players who were with Maryland basketball All-American Len Bias the day he died, as well as to Coach Lefty Driesell, although a prosecutor said they still may not be called to testify before a grand jury.

A grand jury investigation into Bias’ death June 19 is set to begin next Monday. Bias’ death has been attributed to his use of cocaine. More than 60 subpoenas had been previously issued, and another 10 were prepared but not delivered because of concerns, at least in some cases, about granting immunity.

Under Maryland law, a person compelled to testify before a grand jury cannot be prosecuted for any crime connected to his or her testimony.
