Two women were killed late Tuesday when their speeding car crashed into two trees and a block wall at a Woodland Hills intersection, police said.

The accident occurred when a car driven by Katina Burnette, 22, of Woodland Hills failed to negotiate a downhill curve on Calabash Street at its junction with Deseret Drive about 11:20 p.m., Detective Don Bellante said.

Paramedics pronounced Burnette and Martha Goranson, 23, of Encino dead at the scene.

Bellante said physical evidence and witnesses’ statements indicate that the car was traveling 60 to 80 m.p.h. in a 25-m.p.h. zone when Burnette lost control.

After the car left the road, its left side hit a large tree, tearing off one tire and knocking the vehicle up on its right wheels. The car then became airborne and slammed into a second tree and the block wall, Bellante said.

The women worked for the same company and decided to have a night on the town after Burnette borrowed her brother’s silver Porsche, the car destroyed in the crash, police said.
