A 12-year-old boy who wanted someone to stop his foster mother from beating his brother made a tape of the 6-year-old’s screams and gave it to a neighbor, a prosecutor says.

The 20-minute tape recorded the screams of a child being paddled and of a woman yelling, said Lucas County Assistant Prosecutor James Yavorcik. The tape was made during beatings that allegedly occurred July 1-3.

“This kid really showed a great deal of concern,” Yavorcik said last week. “Hearing his voice--he has a narrative at the end of the tape--really brings tears to your eyes.”
