Chapman Handicap Is a Dead Heat at Los Al

Le L’ Argent with Laffit Pincay Jr. aboard and Lucky Twist with Gary Stevens riding finished in a dead heat Saturday in the 10th running of the $27,825 added Chapman Handicap at Los Alamitos Race Course in front of 10,535 spectators.

It was the first dead heat in a stakes race during the 10 years of Orange County Fair racing.

Le L’ Argent took the early lead in the seven-furlong race and was not challenged until the final turn when Lucky Twist drew even, and the two horses ran the home straight neck and neck.

Favorite Rangoon Ruby, with Eddie Delahoussaye up, stumbled out of the gate but still finished a neck behind the winners.

Le L’ Argent returned $3, $3 and $2.40. Lucky Twist paid $4, $3 and $2.40. Rangoon Ruby paid $2.40.
