Frederik, Denmark’s shy bull elephant who fled and fell after persistent sexual harassment from seven amorous female elephants, has died of an apparent heart attack, nature park director Leif Nielsen said today.

The three-ton 16-year-old Frederik fell on his side in a shallow lake on Monday while fleeing his female pursuers. The female elephants tried to push him upright to no avail, and finally Nielsen had to call in rescue services with a crane to do the job. But the stress was too much for Frederick and his heart stopped, Nielsen said.

The nature park is now looking for a more macho male able to satisfy the demands of the enthusiastic resident females.
