Mountainous Yugoslav Area Jarred by Quake
An earthquake in the Kopaonik Mountains south of Belgrade on Wednesday brought down houses, damaged roads and cut water supplies, the official newspaper Borba said Thursday.
The tremor, measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale, was the strongest this year in Yugoslavia. A further shock could level about 4,000 houses already badly damaged from a quake in the region in 1980, Borba said.
The heaviest damage was registered in the villages of Brzece, Djerekare, Knezevo and Koviza, where some houses collapsed. No casualties were reported.
