Jerry Stovall, former Louisiana State football coach, denied knowing of any violations cited by the NCAA in the school’s football program. Twenty-two of the 26 infractions allegedly occurred while he was there.
“I read all 26 of them,” Stovall said. “I wasn’t aware of any of the allegations during my coaching career at LSU.”
Stovall coached the football team from 1980 to 1983. He was fired in December of 1983 and replaced by Bill Arnsparger.
A university committee of professors and academic leaders set up to examine the charges has substantiated 15 of the 26 allegations. Twelve of those 15 occurred under Stovall.
