Orioles Send Down Wiggins, Young
The Baltimore Orioles sent slumping Alan Wiggins, Mike Young and Floyd Rayford to Rochester in the Triple-A International League following Thursday night’s game against Chicago, General Manager Hank Peters announced.
Wiggins, a second baseman, was batting .251 with no home runs and 11 runs batted in, but was in a 6-for-47 slump. Young, an outfielder, was batting .236 with five homers and 30 RBIs. Since June 8, he was hitting .186 and he had not homered in 29 games. Rayford, a catcher and infielder, was batting .143 with two home runs and six RBIs.
To replace the trio, the Orioles called up infielder Jackie Gutierrez and catcher John Stefero from Rochester and all-purpose player Tom Dodd from Charlotte in the Double-A Southern League.
