Hana Mandlikova took advantage of a day off from tennis to get married Friday.

Mandlikova, 24, ranked fourth in the world, married Jan Sedlak, 33, who left Czechoslovakia in 1968 and now lives in the Netherlands, where Mandlikova trains with her coach Betty Stove.

The wedding was kept a secret from everyone except the immediate family. After the ceremony, Mandlikova went out to practice for Czechoslovakia’s match with Argentina in the Federation Cup semifinals.

Mandlikova said she and Sedlak chose to go ahead with the wedding now since they were both in Prague. “I wanted to get married in my own country, in my own city,” she said. “I didn’t want to make a fuss of it. I wanted to keep it very quiet.”

Sedlak had been an admirer of Mandlikova for the past eight years, but nobody had taken the friendship seriously.
