San Diego Tennis : No. 2 and 3 Qualifying Seeds Eliminated From Tournament

The No. 2 and 3 qualifying seeds were eliminated from the Virginia Slims of San Diego tennis tournament Sunday at the San Diego Hilton Beach and Tennis Resort.
Laura Bernstein defeated No. 2 qualifying seed Cammie MacGregor, 6-3, 6-3, to advance to the final of the qualifying round today. MacGregor reached the semifinals of the Virginia Slims Newport, R.I., tournament last weekend.
Bernstein plays Sherri Norris, with the winner advancing to main draw play. Susan Rimes eliminated No. 3 qualifying seed Ivanna Madruga-Osses, 6-3, 6-2, and will play No. 7 qualifying seed Silke Meier, with the winner also advancing to main draw play.
No. 1 qualifying seed Claudia Monteiro plays Marianne Werdel and Pilar Vasquez plays No. 4 qualifying seed Dinky VanRensburg in the other two qualifying final matches.
Second Round Qualifying Results: No. 1 Claudia Monteiro def. Pam Whytcross, 7-5, 6-3. Marianne Werdel def. Lynn Lewis, 6-2, 6-0. Susan Rimes def. No. 3 Ivanna Madruga-Osses, 6-3, 6-2. No. 7 Silke Meier def. Heather Ludloff, 7-5, 6-4. Pilar Vasquez def. Carol Christian, 6-4, 6-3. No. 4 Dinky VanRensburg def. Cynthia MacGregor, 6-4, 6-4. Sherri Norris def. Jane Foreman, 6-4, 7-5. Laura Bernstein def. No. 2 Cammie MacGregor, 6-3, 6-3.
Qualifying Final Schedule: Vasquez vs. VanRensburg, on Stadium Court, 9 a.m. Norris vs. Bernstein follows. Monteiro plays Werdel at 9 a.m. on Court 3. Rimes vs. Meier follows. (Note: the winners advance to main draw play.)
