Guard Norm Nixon of the Clippers underwent a 1 1/2-hour operation Sunday morning to repair tendon damage in his left knee at Daniel Freeman Hospital.

Nixon, 30, is expected to be out of action four to six months.

Nixon suffered a complete rupture of the quadriceps tendon in his left knee last Thursday while playing in a celebrity softball game in New York.

“The rupture was repaired successfully, and the prognosis is excellent,” said Dr. Anthony Daly, who performed the surgery. “He will remain in a cast for six weeks, then begin rehabilitation. He should be playing basketball again in four to six months.”

Daly said Nixon will remain hospitalized for the next five days.
