A former supervising clerk for the Immigration and Naturalization Service was placed on three years’ probation and ordered to perform 300 hours of community service for her part in helping ineligible Taiwanese aliens obtain U.S. citizenship. Georgia Terrell, 41, had pleaded guilty to conspiracy but denied taking bribes in connection with the case. She was indicted in April along with six others and was subsequently fired from her job with the Los Angeles INS office. Sentencing of Betty Alvarez, 40, a former INS paralegal who pleaded guilty to giving passing grades to aliens on their naturalization examinations for $600 apiece, was postponed until Sept. 15.
