A small earthquake, 2.8 on the Richter scale, centered one mile east of Culver City, was felt on parts of Los Angeles’ Westside, shortly after noon today. No damage was reported. Earlier, an aftershock of the July 21 Chalfant Valley earthquake measuring 5.5 shattered a plate-glass window in the Safeway store and did other minor damage in downtown Bishop.

Seismologists said the Bishop area aftershock, the third of greater than 5 magnitude in the last 10 days, was centered southwest of Chalfant Valley, eight to 10 miles north of Bishop. The original quake was centered several miles farther north.
