The skeletal remains of a woman found in Ronald W. Caspers Wilderness Park have been identified as those of Angela Joan Ferguson, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman said Monday.

Lt. Dick Olson said Ferguson, who would have been 35 if she survived her July birthday, was last known to live in the Laguna Beach area. Investigators believe she had been dead “at least several days,” Olson added.

He said examinations of the bones showed that Ferguson died of a blow to her head, and detectives are investigating her death as a homicide.

A ranger at the county park near San Juan Capistrano discovered the skeletal remains about 8 p.m. Thursday, Olson said.

No one has reported the woman missing, Olson said, “at least not to our knowledge. We are not aware of any missing persons reports.”

Olson said there was no record of Ferguson checking in or registering at the wilderness park.
