The eastern regional board of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists and the Screen Actors Guild approved a new tentative three-year contract with film and television producers that would provide an immediate 5% wage increase with another 5% raise in January of 1988. AFTRA spokesman Dick Moore said the vote was 48 to 14, with three abstentions, and predicted that the pact will now be approved by the 92,000 members of the two unions. “I don’t think there’s dancing in the streets,” Moore said, “but I think it’s a good contract.” Union members will vote on the contract by mail and results are expected within three weeks.
