Notebook / David Pack : Golfer, 80, Just Out for the Exercise, Has Nailed 45 Holes in One

Eighty-year-old Don E. Ingerston of the Los Feliz area recently scored his 45th career hole in one. The retired oilman has lived in the Los Angeles area since 1924 and has played golf for 60 years. He has recorded 42 of his 45 aces at the Los Feliz 9-hole, 3-par course, where he plays four times a week. He has aced every hole on the course except the ninth, the longest at 191 yards--but “I’ve come close a few times.” Ingerston, who averages better than one under par at the course, plays for exercise and says he doesn’t think about holes in one.

Steve Butler, Mike Churchill and Michael McCracken, former Junior All-American football players from La Canada, have been awarded $1,000 scholarships by the San Gabriel Valley Junior All-American Football Conferance. The grants are given to high school seniors who participated for at least two years in the conference and have distinguished themselves in academics and citizenship.

Butler, a graduate of La Canada High School, will attend Santa Clara University. Churchill, a La Canada graduate, will attend Pomona College. McCracken, a graduate of Loyola High, will study at Georgetown University.
