Farm Economist George Kuznets Dies in Berkeley

George Kuznets, a retired agricultural scholar honored for his contributions to the economic aspects of his specialty, is dead at 77.

Kuznets died at his home last Sunday, University of California officials reported. His last post before his retirement nine years ago was as a member of the university’s department of agricultural and resource economics.

Received Highest Honor

The Russian-born teacher was distinguished around the world for finding faster and more useful ways for farmers to run their operations as businesses. Kuznets was appointed a fellow of the American Agricultural Economics Assn. in 1982, the highest honor of his profession.

He is survived by his widow, Alice, a son and a daughter.
