Garden Grove : Man Found Shot to Death Outside Bar
A 34-year-old man was found shot to death early Monday outside a Garden Grove bar, police said.
The victim, identified as Roger Gregory Smith of Garden Grove, had been shot through the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Police Lt. David Abrecht said.
Police arrested David Cottrell, 31, who shared a house with Smith, in connection with the killing, Lt. Chuck Gibbs said. Cottrell was booked on suspicion of murder at Orange County jail and is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail.
Abrecht said Smith, who had moved to Orange County from Indiana six months ago, was discovered about 1 a.m. laying beside his car in a shopping center parking lot at the intersection of Brookhurst Street and Westminster Avenue. Abrecht said the bar, Gaynor’s Lounge, was the only business open at that hour.
