About $10,000 in Cash and Jewelry Stolen From Tway During Winning Round in PGA

PGA National Championship winner Bob Tway left Toledo with the silver trophy, but without about $10,000 worth of cash and jewelry that was stolen from his golf bag during the championship round.

Tway, 27, said he left a $9,000 Rolex watch, a PGA money clip with about $300 in cash, a ring worth $400, his driver’s license and credit cards in a cloth bag zipped into a pocket of his golf bag Monday during the final round at the Inverness Club.

He realized the valuables were missing when he reached for them just before the awards ceremony.

They may have been stolen at the 18th hole during the commotion after his dramatic 2-stroke win over Greg Norman, Tway said.

“That watch -- he’s only had it a week -- it was an anniversary present,” Tway’s wife, Tammie, said. “It makes me mad.”

She said she thinks someone stole the valuables before the final round began because Tway’s caddie was with the golf bag throughout the round.

Tway earned $140,000 for winning the tournament.
