Attendance at college basketball games fell last season for the first time in 10 years, the National Collegiate Athletic Assn.’s statistics service reported.
Attendance at all 1,265 colleges and universities was 31,644,786, down 411,887, or 1.28%, from the previous year.
The service speculated that a larger number of games on television and a poor economy in some parts of the country might have been responsible for the decline.
In other college basketball news, the NCAA Executive Committee gave final approval to Indianapolis and Minneapolis as host cities for the 1991 and 1992 Final Four basketball championships.
