LETTERS : Cover Cycling More Frequently

Enclosed are two articles from the Aug. 7 edition (“Encino Cyclist Breaks Track Record at U.S. Meet” and “Stetina Finishes 4th at Road Cycling Championships”) about two young men that are doing very well in the sport of bicycle racing.
Unfortunately, the mass media doesn’t see cycling as an interesting or newsworthy sport so that the public is seldom informed of the “who, what, when, where and why”--which of course keeps it in relative obscurity.
Bicycle racing first started in the United States but lost public support at about the same time that it started on its huge success in Europe. Since then it has become one of Europe’s most popular sports, selling millions of newspapers, race result magazines, and thousands of hours of television time.
This is really a “thank you” letter, so please excuse me if I air one small complaint.
