Laguna Hills : Man Shot by Officers Remains Hospitalized
A 21-year-old man who was shot and wounded when he reportedly pointed a pellet gun at two California Highway Patrol officers remained hospitalized in serious condition Monday.
Guadalupe Soto of Santa Ana was struck in the arm and chest during the confrontation near a Laguna Hills coffee shop Sunday. He remains in the intensive care unit at Mission Community Hospital.
According to Officer Ken Daily, Soto had jumped repeatedly from behind cars and pointed what appeared to be a .45-caliber automatic pistol at the officers, despite warnings in English and Spanish to drop the weapon.
Daily said witnesses had told investigators that Soto had earlier threatened customers in a store at the nearby Laguna Hills Mall and had been acting erractically.
