Thirty-two people were injured early today when a Greyhound bus bound for Los Angeles from San Francisco crashed into the rear of a lumber truck on Interstate 5 about 25 miles south of here, the California Highway Patrol said.

Bus driver Charles Clifton, pinned behind the wheel, had to be cut out of the wreckage by firefighters and was reported in serious condition. Sixteen others were taken to hospitals for treatment of less serious injuries. The other 15 were treated at the scene. The accident occurred shortly before 5 a.m. near the point where Interstate 5 merges with California 99.
