A La Mesa man was killed Thursday morning in the 2700 block of 1st Street in El Cajon when a semi that was backing up ran over him, El Cajon police said.

Mark Edward Leafstrom, 27, was on the passenger side of the truck, giving directions, as another man backed the truck into a driveway. It wasn’t until a pedestrian walking by screamed that the driver, James John Orlowski of Troy, Mo., noticed that Leafstrom was nowhere in sight, police said.

Leafstrom was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both men were movers, Leafstrom for Car-O-Van Moving Co. and Orlowski, 26, for North American Van Lines.
