Valley Dodger Outfielder Named League’s MVP

Valley Dodger outfielder Mike Solomon was named Golden State League Player of the Year, the semipro baseball league announced Thursday.

Solomon, an All-American at Cal State Northridge in 1984 when he led the Matadors to the NCAA Division II championship, batted .455 with 8 home runs and 33 runs batted in 20 league games.

Valley, which finished second in the league and tied for seventh last week in the National Baseball Congress World Series, had three other players named to the all-league team: second baseman Perry Husband, pitcher Randy Cina and catcher Mark Grafitti.

Bob Chadwick of the Ventura County Royals was named Pitcher of the Year. Two of Chadwick’s teammates, former Camarillo High players Scott Cline and Charlie Fiacco, also were named to the all-league team.
