White Sox to Call Up Ex-Troy Star Cochrane

Share

Dave Cochrane, a 1981 graduate of Troy High School, will be one of five players the Chicago White Sox promote from their Triple-A affiliate in Buffalo Tuesday when major league teams can expand rosters from 24 to 40.

Cochrane, 23, is a third baseman who hit .227 with 5 home runs and 15 RBIs in 33 games at Buffalo after being promoted from Chicago’s Double-A affiliate in Birmingham, Ala., last month. He hit .272 with 17 home runs and 74 RBIs at Birmingham.

Drafted and signed by the New York Mets out of high school, Cochrane advanced to the Double-A level in their organization before he suffered a torn ligament in his right ankle in May, 1985. The injury led to a severe infection that kept Cochrane sidelined for the remainder of the year.
