A study commissioned by San Francisco officials has concluded that a downtown stadium for the Giants is not financially feasible as long as the Bay Area has two major league baseball teams. The study concluded that while 1.9 million fans represent the current break-even mark at Candlestick Park, it would take 2.3 million fans for the team to break even at a downtown stadium. The Giants figure to draw around 1.5 million fans this season and the study concluded that if the Oakland A’s departed, they would pick up 500,000 to 700,000 fans. Unhappy with windy and inconvenient Candlestick Park, Giants owner Bob Lurie has threatened to move the team.
