Nicklaus Will Play in London Tournament
Masters champion Jack Nicklaus will compete in this year’s Suntory World Match Play Championship.
The tournament, Oct. 2-5 at Wentworth Golf Club, will be Nicklaus’ fifth appearance in the World Match Play Championships.
He lost to Australia’s Bruce Devlin in the opening round of the first match play championship in 1964; lost in the final to Gary Player of South Africa in 1966; beat fellow American Lee Trevino for the title in 1970; and lost to Player again in the final in 1971.
Nicklaus is tied with Seve Ballesteros of Spain for the event’s best scoring average, 69.4.
