Sugar Ray Leonard told the Washington Post that negotiations between his representatives and those of middleweight champion Marvelous Marvin Hagler would be completed in the near future for a fight to be promoted by Bob Arum of Top Rank, Inc.
Last month, Hagler agreed to fight the former welterweight champion after receiving a guarantee of $10 million from Arum. Leonard’s lawyer, Michael Trainer, said at that time that he would attempt to get Leonard a bigger purse than the $5 million that Arum was offering.
“We’re both talking,” Leonard said. “(Both sides have) given proposals. Both have stated they look pretty good. That’s a sign that something should happen soon.”
