Costa Mesa : Stabbing Victim in Critical Condition
A 52-year-old Monterey County woman remained in critical condition after she was stabbed in the chest with a kitchen knife in her room at the Ha’Penny Inn, police said.
Jill F. Durward of Pacific Grove was discovered by her son, Scott B. Wilkins, police said. The son told police he left their room about midnight Thursday, and when he returned 30 minutes later, he found the door ajar and his mother wounded.
Police said a 12- to 14-inch kitchen knife was used.
Durward was reported in critical condition at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital.
Police have no motive. There were no signs of theft, and the woman was not sexually molested, they said.
Durward and Wilkins had been staying at the motel for three days.
